Canada backs AU sanctions on Madagascar’s transition govt.

Canadian Foreign Minister Lawrence Cannon issued a statement Wednesday, welcoming the African Union ’s adoption of sanctions against Madagascar’s transition government, which came to power one year ago as the result of a coup.

Madagascar sanctions deadline nears

March 16, 2010 — By tomorrow, Madagascar coup President Andry Rajoelina has to implement a power-sharing deal to avoid the imposition of full African Union sanctions on 17 March.

Madagascar leader snubs talks

Madagascar’s president spurned on Thursday the African Union’s latest attempt to resolve the Indian Ocean island’s crisis, increasing the chance the continent’s youngest leader will face sanctions this month.

African states may expel Madagascar’s Ambassadors

African Uniona’s targeted sanctions against Mala gasy President Andry Rajoelina, which will become effective 17 March, will require all African states to expel Madagascara’s Ambassadors, including those accredited to 43 other international bodies.
